Jerry Lee Lewis Net Worth

Jerry Lee LewisBefore becoming a star, Jerry Lee Lewis spent several years as a studio musician, primarily with Sun Studios in Memphis. During his tenure with Sun, he recorded his first single, "Crazy Arms," which went on to do well locally. He also performed on several recording sessions with Carl Perkins, including one where he jammed with Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. The session was recorded but was not released until many years later.

Although Lewis didn't write many songs of his own, he was an influential influence in the development of rockabilly music. His unorthodox piano playing style helped bring rockabilly music to a wider audience. Other musicians, including Elton John, have adapted his style. In fact, Lewis has been credited with inspiring many modern pianists.

After a turbulent life, Lewis resurfaced in the recording industry. His 1979-80 Elektra Records period produced his signature song, "Rockin' My Life Away," as well as a heartfelt version of "Over the Rainbow." He was also featured on several of Cash's songs. In 1973, he released an all-star album in London titled "The Session."

In 1986, Lewis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2005, he received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Although he never won a Grammy for recorded music, he won for Best Spoken Word or Non-Musical Recording. The biopic, Great Balls of Fire, was based on Lewis' life and re-recorded his songs for the soundtrack.
